Sat July 7, Departure, Fremont to Port Townsend

Ballard Locks
Spent most of the day doing final packing. So much to do, so little time. Hoped to depart by noon but didnt "set sail" from Fremont until about 5pm. Passing through the Ballard Locks is fun but usually a bit stressful. We were squeezed in tight. After passing through the locks we had to wait for the train bridge to open and were passed by 2 scantily clad stand up paddle boarders.
Crazy Stand Up Paddle Boarders just outside the locks
We motored to Port Townsend against the rising tide (losing 2 knots of speed) and against a light breeze most of the way. Watched radar, GPS plotter and Rhys' electronic toys while motoring into the darkness. We had to scoot out of the way of a tug pulling a barge that was heading directly for us - too close for comfort. Its easy to get disoriented in the darkness. Luckily, Rhys was very attentive while I mounted the new cockpit table.  We arrived to the Port Townsend marina about midnight and slept well.
